About the market
Finland has 20 universities. Oodi is used by 11 universities.
Our universities at the moment are:

- University of Eastern Finland
- University of Lapland
- University of Oulu
- University of Vaasa
- Lappeenranta University of Technology
- Aalto University
- Hanken School of Economics
- Turku School of Economics and Business Administration

University of Joensuu merged with University of Kuopio in the beginning of 2010 and became University of Eastern Finland.
Helsinki University of Technology, Helsinki School of Economics and University of Arts and Designed merged in the beginning of 2010 to form Aalto University
These universities have over 100 000 students. The total number of Finnish university students is 164 000. There are 20 universities in total.
There are also 28 polytechnics, but they have their own student adm. system called Winha. This is getting old and they are looking for a new solution. As we discussed, HIS is the one they seem most keen on at the moment.

We have built a web service architecture this year and are just about to start experimenting with two web services (transfer of learning opportunity instances, transfer of credits). During the summer we will be building several services to improve integration with portals. Our aim is to build all future functionality and modules on top of the web services. This will allow the universities to independently attach services and modules that they need. First of these modules will be teacher's functionality and that should be available next year.
Common standards and web service descriptions would be beneficial at the moment. Finland has agreed on three data set descriptions for studen administration purposes:
- M0: Study Rights Data
- M1: Degree, Study Module and Course Unit Data
- M2: Course Unit Realisation Data
- M3: Credits Data
All of the above are available in English:
