Examples, rather than definitive statements, are used in the definition of some LOCs or levels.
In some structures or frameworks, notably O*NET, levels in particular are defined by example. But generally examples of content may be used to indicate a general type of competence or learning outcome, where the exact nature and coverage of the LOC is open. This would be particularly useful where experience one one example readily transferred to ability with different examples; where the assumption is that there is an underlying ability, which can be demonstrated in many different ways, and that many of those different ways can be a route to learning the same generic ability.
