e-Learning:

The ESOs are invited to further develop European standards for e-learning by strengthening industry and stakeholder participation and by ensuring that European requirements are properly addressed by global initiatives such as IMS, IEEE LTSC and ISO/IEC JTC1/SC36. Areas of interest include:
* portfolio, life-long competency framework, content repositories, curriculum and e-learning content exchange formats and vocabularies, assessment and accessibility;

* e-Learning standards observatory.

e-Learning:

The ESOs are invited to further develop European standards and supporting activities for e-learning by strengthening stakeholder participation (e.g., industry, Higher Education, schools, learners) and by ensuring that European requirements are properly addressed by standards activities in both national and global Standards Setting Organisations. The value of informal consortia and community grass-roots specification efforts that support interoperability should be recognised as an important input to these activities. It should also be recognised the value of adopting and investigating the potential standards, specifications, and interoperability mechanisms from other sectors.

Areas of interest include:
* conceptual and technical frameworks with relevance to technology-enhanced learning, e-portfolio, life-long competency framework, quality assurance and development, content repositories and other content exchange mechanisms, curriculum and e-learning content exchange formats and vocabularies, learner mobility, assessment and accessibility;

* activities that attempt to strenghten the input from research and development to standardisation (e.g., e-Learning standards observatory), and disseminate the results of standardisation. This includes awareness building and knowledge exchange between different communities to connect project results and (pre-)standardisation.
